IAC GIRLS SOCCER: TIOGA BLANKS NEWFIELD, 1-0 (2021-04-12)

Valley Sports Report
NEWFIELD "” Rachel Feeko scored with 1:16 remaining in the first half, and the Tioga defense made it stand in a 1-0 win over Newfield here Monday afternoon in IAC Small School Division girls soccer action.

Tioga coach Jim Walsh gave a great deal of credit to the defensive backs for the win.

"Newfield changed its offense in the second half by bringing out senior Jenna Goodwin, who was in goal for first half," said Walsh. "That move made us face more offensive pressure and shots, but we held tight.

"We received some very solid defensive play by our back four: Eve (Wood), Cassie (Birney), Aliza Browne, and Brynn Elston.

"The midfield also played a key role tonight in the close victory by helping out the defense, getting the ball to the offense, and being part of the offensive attack, all of which we discussed pre-game," added Walsh.

Tioga, playing its first game in three weeks, outshot Newfield, 10-7, and had a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Gabrielle Foley recorded seven shots for the Lady Tigers.

Tioga, now 2-1-1, travels to Notre Dame Wednesday.
