SECTION IV FIELD HOCKEY: MORAVIA BLANKS TIOGA, 8-0 (2021-04-14)

Valley Sports Report
MORAVIA "” Bella Banerjee scored a pair of first-quarter goals, then six of her teammates added goals in Moravia's 8–0 win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in Section IV, Division III field hockey action.

"We worked hard today against an experienced team with a strong offensive attack," said Tioga coach Jodi Riggs. "Our goalie and defensive team played well with one member absent.

"Our offense as a whole was a bit disconnected, also playing a member short," noted Riggs. "We are spreading ourselves thin and trying new combos this far into the season given our low numbers and lack of experience.

"Our whole team worked hard getting the ball down the field, but once we got to the circle we were just unable to find the sweet spot," she added. "I'm happy with the attempts, but share in their frustration of not meeting our team goals today."

Banerjee scored less than two minutes into the game, off a feed from Bailey Williamson, then again with 7 minutes remaining in the first quarter, this time off a feed from Gabby Heim to take it 2-0.

Heim and Williamson scored second-quarter goals to give the Lady Blue Devils a 4-0 lead at the half.

Lilly O'Neill, Kayleigh Stayton, Grace Becker, and Allie Kehoe scored second-half goals for Moravia.

Moravia had a 32-7 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 14-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Aubrey Nichols recorded 19 saves in the cage for the Lady Tigers.

Tioga, now 0-6, wraps up the abbreviated season Saturday on the turf at Owego. Game time is 1 p.m.
