Wendi Hammond, a sophomore on the University of Albany softball team, pitched back-to-back shutouts again Maine over the weekend, and Monday was named the "America East Pitcher of the Week."
On Friday, Hammond tossed a one-hitter, striking out five and walking one in seven innings.
A day later, Hammond threw an eight-inning shutout, striking out seven and walking none.
Albany won both games, 2-0.
Hammond also picked up a pair of wins at home the previous weekend against Stony Brook.
On May 1, she threw a four-hit shoutout, striking out five and walking one in seven innings in a 2-0 win.
On May 2, Hammond allowed one run on nine hits over five innings. She struck out two and walked one.
In her last eight starts, Hammond is 7-0 with a 0.80 ERA, including a 12-inning shutout against Hartford. She has fanned 40 and walked nine in 56.3 innings pitched.
On the season, Hammond is 10-4 with a 2.45 ERA. In 117 innings pitched, she struck out 100 and walked just 18.
Albany wraps up the regular season at 22-17, and will face Stony Brook Thursday in the America East Tournament.
