COLLEGE BASEBALL: SAYRE GRAD HANAFIN HELPS LACKAWANNA COLLEGE TO JUNIOR COLLEGE WORLD SERIES (2021-05-23)

SCRANTON - Sayre grad Quinn Hanafin, a freshman on the Lackawanna College baseball team, has carried a strong regular season into the postseason, helping the Falcons to the NJCAA Division II Baseball World Series.

Lackawanna College went 3-0 to win the NJCAA Region XIX Championships, then swept Monroe Community College 2-0 in the NJCAA East District Tournament.

Hanafin hit safely in the first four games of the postseason, batting .333 (7 hits in 21 ABs) with two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored.

Lackawanna College ended the regulars season at 24-11, and was the top seed in the Region XIX Championships.

The Falcons beat fourth-seed Susses CC, 11-1 in the opening game. Hanafin singled, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win.

Lackawanna College then beat Delaware Technical College, 9-3, in the winner's bracket final. Hanafin singled and drove in two runs in the win.

Delaware Technical College worked its way back into the title game, but Lackawanna College claimed the title with a 22-8 win. Hanafin had three hits, including a home run, two runs scored, and one RBI.

The Falcons punched their ticket to the NJCAA Division II World Series with a sweep of Monroe Community College by scores of 10-3 and 6-4. Hanafin homered and singled, scored two runs and drove in one run in the first game, and was hitless in four at-bats in the second game.

On the season, Hanafin is hitting .356 (36 hits in 101 at-bats) with seven doubles, eight home runs, 35 RBI, 33 runs scored, and one stolen base. He has also drawn 15 walks and has a .440 on-base percentage.

The NJCAA World Series will be held in Enid, OK.
