WAVERLY - Varsity Division play in the Waverly Summer Basketball League began Monday evening, with Athens and Mansfield winning two games apiece, and Waverly winning its only game.

Athens topped Towanda, 48-39, and beat the Elmira JVs, 54-28, while Mansfield beat Watkins Glen, 44-35, and Notre Dame, 53-43.

Waverly bested S-VE, 59-39.

Tioga was 0-2 on the night, dropping a 49-23 decision to the Elmira JVs, and falling, 39-26, to Towanda.

In other action, Candor topped Watkins Glen, 45-39, but dropped a 56-55 decision to Notre Dame. And, Troy bested S-VE, 47-28.
