HORSEHEADS - Tioga finished 3-3 in Pool B at the rugged Horseheads Volleyball Tournament, finishing second in the pool to powerhouse Portville.

The tournament field was littered with programs that have won state titles, several winning multiple titles, since its inception in 1990.

Locally, Owego (Class B) and Candor (Class D) have three apiece, and Corning (West) and Horseheads (Class A) each have one state title. City Honors won four in a row in Class C from 1990-93, and won another in 2003, while John Glenn also has five Class B titles, Portville has four - two in Class C and two in Class D. North Penn was a PIAA runner-up in 2019.

Tioga swept Owego by scores of 27-25 and 25-18, and split with Corning, winning the first game 25-15 and dropping the second 25-17.

Portville, which won Class C states titles in 2017 and '18, and Class D titles in 2015 and '15, topped Tioga 25-13 and 25-8.

Tioga advanced into the Gold Bracket playoffs with Portville. The bracket also included City Honors School (Buffalo), Horseheads, John Glenn, Cicero-North Syracuse, Baldwinsville, and North Penn.

The Lady Tigers were eliminated by Portville in bracket play. Portville went on to beat Class AA Baldwinsville in the Gold Bracket finals.

Vestal topped Candor in the Silver Bracket finals.
