THE VALLEY "” There isn't much in terms of quantity on Tuesday docket, but there a pair of quality events in the Tom Koons Valley Cross Country Invite, and the Waverly boys' first playoff soccer match in five years.

BOYS SOCCER
Section IV Playoffs
Class B Opening Round
9-Waverly (7-5) at 8-Susquehanna Valley (4-6-2), 5 p.m.: The Wolverines dropped their season finale at Newfield, 1-0, last Tuesday, while the Sabers topped Afton-Harpursville, 3-1.

The winner will travel to face top-seeded Chenango Valley (14-0) Friday in the quarterfinals.

This is Waverly's first appearance in the playoffs since 2016 when it blanked Union Springs, 2-0, in the quarterfinals for its first-ever postseason win, before falling to state-ranked Notre Dame in the semifinals.

CROSS COUNTRY
Tom Koons Valley Invite, 4 p.m. @ Waverly Glen: Waverly senior Nate Ackley will battle it out in the boys race against the Athens trio of seniors Matt Gorsline and Kyle Anthony, and junior Ethan Denlinger.

In the girls race, Athens freshman Sara Bronson and junior Emma Bronson will look to hold off Waverly freshman Harper Minaker, sophomore Elizabeth Vaughn, and senior Olivia NIttinger.

With National Honor Society inductions scheduled for tonight at Athens Area High School, the varsity races will be run first today, with the junior high race to follow.

VOLLEYBALL
Williamson (10-4) at Sayre (1-11), 6 p.m. JV start: The Redskins are coming off a 3-0 loss to Small School-leading Canton Thursday, while the Lady Warriors rallied for a five-set win over Canton Saturday.
