IAC VOLLEYBALL: DIVISION-LEADING EDISON FENDS OFF WAVERLY (2021-10-20)

WAVERLY - Division-leading Edison kept its perch atop the Large School title chase with a hard-fought 3-0 win over Waverly here Tuesday evening in IAC volleyball action.

The Lady Spartans opened the match with a 26-24 win, then won the second set 25-18, before closing out the night with another 26-24 win.

Sophomore Peyton Shaw led Waverly 11 service points, including seven aces, six kills, and three blocks, while freshman Lillie Kirk added nine points (two aces), three kills, and seven digs, and 8th-grader Brilynn Belles had six points (four aces), and 10 digs.

Sophomore Paighten Streeter had six points and five digs for the Lady Wolverines, while junior Michaela Lauper had two points (two aces) and six digs, senior Sydney Nierstedt added two points, two kills, two blocks, eight setter assists, and five digs, and sophomore Erica Ryck chipped in with two digs.

Maren LUtz and Emma Maggs led Edison with seven points (seven aces) and two kills, Jadyn Wood had six points (five aces) and five kills, Ashlyn Maggs had six points (five aces) and three kills, and Harper Hoffman registered five kills and two digs.

Waverly, now 5-7, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Candor.

JV: Edison won the junior varsity match by scores of 25-14 and 25-10. Waverly won the set, 25-22.

Ashlen Croft led Waverly with eight points, including five aces, and two kills, while Natalie Lauper had seven points (four aces) and four digs. Laney Teeter had five points, three kills, and four digs, Makena Pike had three points (two aces), Maddy Olmsted had seven setter assists and two digs, Lauryn DeLill added two points (two aces), and Meghan Apgar chipped in with three digs.
