Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY - The regular season is winding down with the penultimate week of the regular season on both sides of the border featuring four games on "Football Friday," including home games for Waverly, Sayre, and Tioga.

FOOTBALL
Oneonta (2-4) at Waverly (7-0), 7 p.m. @ Memorial Stadium:
The Wolverines, ranked 8th in New York State in Class C, are coming off a division-clinching, 25-19, win over Watkins Glen / O-M, while the Yellowjackets dropped a 41-7 decision to Susquehanna Valley.

Waverly is outscoring its opponents 32.4 to 7.7, while Oneonta has been outscored 25.5 to 14  (29.8 to 4 win its four-game losing streak.)

Sophomore QB Joey Tomasso has thrown for 1,330 yards and 12 TDs, and has rushed for 305 yards and eight TDs.

Junior Gage Tedesco leads the Wolverines with 387 rushing yards and six TDs, while senior Brady Blauvelt leads Waverly with 33 receptions for 382 yards and  five TDs, and sophomore Jay Pipher has 26 catches for 529 yards.

Postseason: Waverly has qualified for the Section IV, Class C playoffs, and will host Norwich in Week 9 (Nov. 5) in the semifinals.

Common opponents:
The only common foe for the two teams is Watkins Glen / O-M. Oneonta lost 27-7 to the Seneca Indians.

Last meeting: Waverly topped Oneonta, 28-14, in Week 6 of the 2019 season.

South Williamsport (4-3) at Sayre (5-3), 7 p.m. @ The Lockhart Street Bowl:
The Redskins are coming off a 30-20 loss, while the Mounties dropped a 31-20 decision at Muncy in Week 7.

Sayre has outscored its opponents 31.6 to 21.3 this season, while South Williamsport has outscored its foes 20.4 to 15.4.

Senior QB Brayden Horton has thrown for 1,267 yards and 10 TDs, and has run for a team-high 521 yards and 11 TDs.

Junior Lucas Horton has 26 receptions for 410 yards and four TDs while senior Josh Arnold has 26 catches for 261 yards and two TDs, and junior Jackson Hubbard has 20 grabs for 339 yards, and three TDs,

Senior David Northrup has run for 392 yards and seven TDs for the Redskins and junior Zach Garrity has 249 yards and four TDs.

South Williamsport's Lane Lusk has run for more than 1,200 yards.

Postseason: Currently, South Williamsport is the fourth seed, while Sayre is the sixth seed. If the Redskins want a home game in the upcoming District 4, Class AA playoffs, they likely need to win tonight, and next week in the "Rusty Rail" game.

Common opponents: Sayre beat CMVT, 63-14, while South won 40-8 ... Sayre bested Montgomery, 36-16, while South slipped by the Red Raiders, 34-29 ... Sayre lost at Muncy, 42-8, while the Mounties lost at Muncy, 31-20 ... South blanked Cowanesque Valley, 41-0, while Sayre dropped a 26-19 decision at CV.

Last meeting: South topped Sayre, 35-6, in Week 9 of the 2015 season.

Bainbridge-Guilford (1-5 overall, 0-5 Div. VI) at Tioga (6-0, 5-0), 7 p.m. @ Haggerty Field:
The Tigers, ranked No. 1 in Class D in New York State, are coming off a 48-0 win over state-ranked Harpursville-Afton, while the Bobcats lost 28-0 to Sidney.

Tioga has outscored their opponents by an average of 45.5 to 7.2, while B-G has been outscored 36.2 to 10.

Senior tailback Emmett Wood has rushed for 1,041 yards and 18 TDs, averaging 14.9 yards per carry, and senior Gavin Godfrey has run for 371 yards and four TDs. As a team, the Tigers are averaging 356.3 yards per game on the ground, and 11 yards per carry.

Sophomore Caden Bellis has completed 20 of 35 passes for 577 yards (28.9 yards per completion) for eight TDs, without being intercepted. Cobe Whitmore leads the Tigers with seven catches for 135 yards and two TDs, while sophomore Evan Sickler has five grabs for 207 yards and two TDs

Postseason: With a win tonight, Tioga clinches the top seed in the upcoming Section IV, Class D playoffs.

Last meeting: Tioga blanked B-G, 43-0, in Week 3 of the 2019 season.

Athens (5-3) at Wellsboro (3-3), 7 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 34-10 loss to Canton, while the Green Hornets won at Wyalusing, 24-6.

Athens is outscoring its opponents by an average of 28.4 to 9.9, while Wellsboro been outscored 17.3 to 16.8 points per game.

Athens junior QB Mason Lister has thrown for 1,055 yards and 12 TDs, and has rushed for five TDs as well. His favorite targets have been senior Karter Rude (24 receptions for 438 yards, and four TDs), senior Shayne Reid (16-242-3), and senior J.J. Babcock (14-213-4).

Reid is Athens' leading rusher with 853 yards and eight TDs, while junior Caleb Nichols has 257 yards and three TDs.

Postseason: Athens is currently the fifth seed in Class AAA, but could slip past Montoursville into the fourth seed and a home game in the semifinals with wins tonight, and next week in the Rusty Rail Game, paired with a loss by the Warriors in one of its last two games.

Common opponents: Wellsboro topped South Williamsport, 17-7, while Athens dropped a 7-0 decision ... Athens was blanked by Troy, 12-0, while South dropped a 21-0 decision ... Canton beat Athens, 34-10, and the Warriors beat Wellsboro, 26-0 ... Athens rolled to a 46-6 win over Wyalusing, while Wellsboro topped South, 26-6.

Last meeting: Wellsboro rolled to a 57-13 win over Athens in Week 6 of the 2019 season.
