THE WEEK AHEAD: POSTSEASON SOCCER, CROSS COUNTRY, 'RUSTY RAIL' HIGHLIGHT WEEK (2021-10-24)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY "” The football and volleyball regular seasons comes to an end on both sides of the border this week, while postseason soccer and cross country gets under way.

There are 16 events on the docket, with the possibility of another being added. Monday is the busiest day with four events scheduled.

The following are some, not all, of the week's events:

MONDAY (4)
"¢  Waverly hosts Watkins Glen in its final home volleyball match of the season.

"¢  Tioga volleyball travels to Newark Valley for its final regular-season match. With a win, the Lady Tigers would force a divisional playoff game at Candor Wednesday.

TUESDAY (2)
"¢  Athens hosts Wellsboro in an NTL Large School volleyball match-up.

WEDNESDAY (1)
"¢  Waverly travels to face top-seeded Chenango Valley in the semifinals of the Section IV, Class B girls soccer playoffs.

THURSDAY (3)
"¢  Athens and Sayre harriers are in action at the District 4 Cross Country Championships at Bloomsburg University.

"¢  Sayre hosts Cowanesque Valley in its final volleyball match of the season.

"¢  Athens closes out its volleyball season at home against powerhouse North Penn-Liberty.

FRIDAY (3)

 "¢  Sayre hosts Athens in the annual "Rusty Rail" rivalry football game at the Lockhart Street Bowl.

"¢  Waverly travels to Susquehanna Valley looking to finish off an unbeaten regular season, and lock up home-field advantage throughout the Section IV, Class C football playoffs.

"¢  Waverly and Tioga runners will be in action in the IAC Cross Country Championships at Marathon.

SATURDAY (3)

"¢  The Athens girls will take on top-seeded Mifflinburg in the semifinals of the District 4, Class AAA soccer playoffs at a site and time to be determined.

"¢  The Athens boys will take on second-seeded Selinsgrove in the semifinals of the District 4, Class AAA soccer playoffs at a site and time to be determined.

"¢  Tioga looks to finish off an unbeaten football season at Deposit-Hancock in a matinee affair.
