FROM THE PRESS BOX: WITH THANKSGIVING DINNER DOWN, IT'S TIME TO GIVE THANKS (2021-11-26)

Thanksgiving.

It's a day set aside for turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, carrots, more stuffing, more mashed potatoes, more gravy, apple pie, pumpkin pie, perhaps a piece of four-berry pie and, of course, whipped cream.

It's also a day for, well, giving thanks.

Now that I've had a day to digest the turkey, trimmings and everything that comes with Thanksgiving, I'd like to take a bit of your time and let you know what I'm thankful for.

I'm thankful for my loving wife Nikki, who is also a supportive and unselfish business partner. I'm grateful for my six kids, who are all thriving. And, I'm grateful to my oldest, Andrew, and his wife, Jessica, who just blessed us with our third grandchild.

Of course, I am extremely thankful for Tim Taylor at Tioga County Sports Report, Chris Manning at Northern Tier Sports Report, Lance Larcom at the Northern Tier West Sports Report, and Brian Fees at Southern Tier Sports Report.

All four of these gentlemen ate quintessential professionals, and provide the best coverage of high school, travel and youth sports in their respective areas. Viewership numbers across the board for "The Sports Reports" have been record-setting.

I'm very thankful for all the coaches in the Valley, who go out of their way to be cooperative, making my job easier and making it easier to give the student-athletes in the Valley the exposure they deserve.

And I have to mention the one sector we couldn't do this without - our advertisers. We have a number of businesses who advertise on multiple sites and that has been a vital part of our growth, but we also have many smaller businesses supporting our efforts, and for that I am forever grateful.

With that, I implore our readers to support our local businesses to make sure they stay in business. If recent events have shown anything, it's that nothing is guaranteed.

Speaking of our readers, I am blessed to have grown up in an area where high school sports is a staple of life. We've tapped into that zest for high school athletics, and become the go-to source in all five regions we cover.

I can't thank our readers enough for their support. Many visit our sites three, four, five or more times a day. Regardless of how many times you visit any of The Sports Report, I am thankful for your support.

And lastly, to the ones who really drive our success - I am eternally thankful the student-athletes in our area. At Valley Sports Report, I have been blessed to cover a number of District 4 and Section IV championship teams, as well as nearly two dozen state champions in individual events since 2009.

People in this area support their teams and athletes win or lose, but everyone loves a winner!

I give thanks on a regular basis for the dedication our Valley athletes have to their sports, and the time and preparation they are willing to put into their craft.

I could go on forever about how fortunate I am to have so many things to be thankful for, especially my wife Nikki, who has been a driving force behind the scenes in the growth of The Sports Reports, but that second plate of leftover turkey I ate has made me a bit drowsy. I need a nap.
