WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: TIOGA GRAD AYRES SETS CAREER-HIGHS FOR POINTS, 3-POINTERS IN EC LOSS AT UTICA COLLEGE (2022-01-09)

UTICA — Tioga grad Olivia Ayres, a freshman on the Elmira College women’s basketball team, set a new career=high in points and 3-pointers, but the Lady Soaring Eagles dropped an 81-50 decision here Friday at Utica College.

Ayres pumped in 20 points, and knocked down six 3-pointers, including four treys in the fourth quarter. Ayres was 6-for-10 from the field, and 6-for-9 from behind the 3-point arc.

Ayres also had two rebounds and one blocked shot in 26 minutes of action.

Ayres’ previous-highs were 15 points and five 3-pointers against Casanova on Nov. 17.

On the season, Ayres is averaging 8.1 points, 3 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in nine games. She also has 21 3-pointers and is shooting 34 percent from behind the arc.

Sayre grad Emily Sutryk had one assist and one steal in 10 minutes of court time.

Elmira College, now 6-4, travels to Alfred University Tuesday.
