IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: STATE-RANKED UNION SPRINGS ROLLS OVER TIOGA, 64-28 (2022-01-14)

TIOGA CENTER — Tioga stayed close for one quarter, but state-ranked Union Springs pulled away for a 64-28 win here Friday night in IAC Small School girls basketball crossover action.

The Lady Wolves, ranked sixth in the state in Class C, led 20-11 after the first eight minutes. Junior Reese Howey kept Tioga in the game with nine first-quarter points.

Union Springs used a 13-4 second-quarter run to take a 33-15 lead into the halftime break, then outscored Tioga 24-4 in the third quarter, and led 57-19 heading into the final eight minutes.

Howey led Tioga with 11 points, five boards, six steals, and two blocked shots, while senior Julia Bellis had nine points and eight rebounds, senior Abby Foley added four points and four boards, senior Gabby Foley grabbed five boards, and senior Mariah Nichols grabbed four rebounds.

Tioga, now 1-10, hosts Candor Tuesday.
