SECTION IV INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: LADY WOLVERINES FINSHES SECOND AT SECTION IV CLASSIC; BOYS FINISH SIXTH (2022-01-15)
Valley Sports ReportCORTLAND — Freshman Harper Minaker and 7th-grader Lauren Gorsline each had a pair of top-four finishes to lead the Lady Wolverines to a second-place finish Saturday at the Section IV Indoor Track & Field Classic at SUNY Cortland, while the Waverly boys finished sixth.
GIRLSSidney won the team title with 65 points in the 15-team field, while Waverly tallied 56, and third-place Dryden had 44.
Minaker won the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:30.51, edging out runner-up Gorsline.
Junior Kelsey Ward won the 600-meter run in a time of 1:54.4, and Minaker was third in 1:56.42.
Freshman Haylie Davenport won the 1,500-meter race walk in a time of 9:38.35, and 8th-grader Emma Vanderhoof was third in 10:44.31.
Gorsline finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:52.72, and junior Josie VanDyke was 10th in 6:47.14.
Freshman Kiley Stillman finished fifth in the high jump at 4-feet, 2-inches.
Sophomore Allison Barrett finished seventh in the 55-meter dash in 8.35 seconds, while junior Natalie Garrity was eighth in 8.56 seconds, and Stillman was ninth in 8.57 seconds.
Eighth-grader Mira Kittle was ninth in the 55-meter hurdles in 11.04 seconds.
Garrity was 10th in the long jump at 12-feet, 9 1/2-inches.
BOYS The Wolverines tallied 14 points, well off the pace of team champ Ithaca, which amassed 127 points.
Sophomore Micah Chandler finished second in the 300-meter dash in a time of 38.76 seconds, and senior Sam VanDyke was fifth in 40.73 seconds.
Chandler finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 10.23 seconds, and was seventh in the long jump at 15-feet, 10 1/2-inches.
VanDyke was 10th in the high jump at 5-feet, and senior Hunter Elston was 10th in the shot put with a heave of 29-feet, 10 1/2-inches.
