VALLEY ASA SOFTBALL (MAJORS): DANDY MINI MARTS TOPS TANNER'S BAR & GRILL, 10-5 (2022-04-27)

ATHENS TOWNSHIP — The Dandy Mini Marts grabbed an early lead on its way to a 10-5 victory over Tanner's Bar & Grill here in the Valley ASA Majors Division season opener Saturday at the Wesleyan Church field.

Dandy scored on a stolen base by Hannah Shutter, a groundout by Gretchen Hiley, a single by Abbey Wagner, and a stolen base by Wagner in the first inning.

Dandy scored four more runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower by Dandy was led by Ruby Kocsis, Annabel Willmot, and Sarah Riley — all driving in runs in the frame.

Gretchen Hiley pitched Dandy to victory. The right-hander lasted six innings, allowing 13 hits and four runs, while striking out five and walking none.  Maddy Hiley threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Kocsis hit a home run in the fourth inning to highlight Dandy’s nine-hit attack.

Haily Young, Hiley, Kocsis, and Wagner each had two hits to pace Dandy at the plate. Hiley led Dandy with four of the team’s 14 stolen bases.

Tanner’s tallied 15 hits. Chloe Kirk, Bella Gonzalez, Cassidy D, Reagan Parrish, and Mia C each collected multi-hit games.
