SAYRE — Senior David Northrup threw five strong innings, and junior Zach Garrity homered to lead to Sayre to a 12-1 regular-season closing five-inning win over Troy here Tuesday afternoon in NTL baseball action at Riverfront Park’s Ralph Hendershot Field.

Northrup allowed one run on three hits, while striking out five and walking two in five innings to earn the win. He threw just 69 pitches.

Garrity led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run, and junior Jackson Hubbard added a sacrifice fly later in the frame to give the Redskins an early 2-0 lead.

Junior Lucas Horton led off the home half of the third inning with a single, and Northrup and senior Kannon VanDuzer each worked base on balls to load the bases.

Hubbard belted a two-run double to make it 5-0, then back-to-back walks to seniors Mason Houseknecht and Oakley Gorman forced home a run to extend the lead to 6-0.

Garrity grounded an RBI single into left field, senior Brayden Horton worked a walk to make it 8-0, and Lucas Horton stroked a two-run single to right field to give the Redskins a 10-0.

Sayre added a pair of runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Brayden Horton, and a bases-loaded walk to Northrup.

Troy scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, but Northrup recorded the final three outs to end the game via the 10-run “mercy rule.”

Lucas Horton stroked three singles, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Garrity homered and singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs to pace Sayre’s eight-hit attack.

Hubbard doubled, scored one run, and had three RBI in the win, while Brayden Horton singled, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and VanDuzer singled and scored one run.

Northrup, Gorman and Houseknecht each scored one run and drove in one run in the win, while seniors Dom Fabbri, Josh Arnold and Joey VanAllen each crossed the plate once.

Sayre finishes up the regular season at 18-2, and unofficially jumped Wyalusing into the top spot in the District 4, Class AA power points standing, and will the likely be the top seed.
