NTL SOFTBALL: SAYRE DROPS 3-1 DECISION AT TOWANDA (11 PHOTOS) (2022-05-18)

WYSOX — Towanda scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out a 3-1 win over Sayre here Wednesday afternoon in NTL softball action.

After three scoreless innings, Raegan Parrish doubled to left field with one out in the top of the fourth inning, stole third, and scored on an error on the steal to give the Lady Redskins a 1-0 lead.

Towanda answered with a run in the home half of the frame on an RBI single by Ashlynn Vargason to tie the game at 1-1.

Parrish ripped a two-out the triple down the left-field line in the top of the sixth inning, but Towanda hurler Amanda Johnson escaped the threat unscathed.

The Lady Knights took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-out single by Addie Fulmer, and back-to-back RBI doubles by Vargason and Jocelyn Bennett to make it 3-1.

The Lady Redskins threatened in the top of the seventh, but couldn’t push across a run.

Mercedez Haggerty and Olivia Corbin started the inning with back-to-back singles, but an out on the base paths and a strikeout left Sayre with a runner on first and two outs.

Abbie McGaughey singled to keep the rally alive, but another out on the base paths brought the game to an end.

Parrish tripled and doubled, and scored one run to pace Sayre at the plate, while McGaughey and Corbin each had two singles in an eight-hit attack.

Meghan Flynn doubled and Haggerty singled for the Lady Redskins.

Parrish was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits, while striking out two and walking one in six innings.

Johnson earned the win for Towanda, allowing one unearned run on eight hits, while striking out six and walking one.

Bennett had three hits, including a double, while Vargason doubled and singled, scored one run, and drove in two runs, Johnson doubled and singled, and Fulmer singled twice and scored two runs to account for Towanda’s nine hits.

Sayre, now 0-18, hosts Galeton Thursday to complete its 2022 campaign.
