THE VALLEY — Sayre baseball opens defense of its District 4, Class AA title at home this afternoon, while Waverly hosts the IAC girls golf championships this morning at Tomasso’s Golf Course.

District 4 Playoffs
Class AA Quarterfinals
8-Montgomery (10-8) at 1-Sayre (18-2), 4:30 p.m.:
The Redskins are coming off a 12-1 win over Troy Tuesday in the regular-season finale, while the Red Raiders topped Class $A Milton, 9-5.

Sayre has won two in a row after a loss to second-seeded Wyalusing that snapped a 16-game wining streak.

Montgomery has won four out of its last five. The Red Raiders started the season at 1-4.

Both teams lost to South Williamsport, the third seed in the Class AA playoffs, and beat Towanda during the regular season.

Section IV Playoffs
Class C Opening Round
10-Moravia (7-7) at 7-Tioga (11-6), 3 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a 15-5 win over Union Springs in the IAC Small School Championships, while the Blue Devils beat Marathon, 13-2.

Earlier this season, Tioga dropped a 6-5 decision at Moravia.

GIRLS GOLF
IAC Championships, 9 a.m. @ Tomasso’s Golf Course:
Waverly hosts the IAC for the league championship this morning, with teams from Watkins Glen, Lansing, Marathon, and SVEC expected to compete.
