THE VALLEY — Sayre baseball opens defense of its District 4, Class AA title at home this afternoon, while Waverly hosts the IAC girls golf championships this morning at Tomasso’s Golf Course.

Class AA Quarterfinals
8-Montgomery (10-8) at 1-Sayre (18-2), 4:30 p.m.: The Redskins are coming off a 12-1 win over Troy Tuesday in the regular-season finale, while the Red Raiders topped Class $A Milton, 9-5.

Sayre has won two in a row after a loss to second-seeded Wyalusing that snapped a 16-game wining streak.

Montgomery has won four out of its last five. The Red Raiders started the season at 1-4.

Both teams lost to South Williamsport, the third seed in the Class AA playoffs, and beat Towanda during the regular season.

10-Moravia (7-7) at 7-Tioga (11-6), 3 p.m.: The Tigers are coming off a 15-5 win over Union Springs in the IAC Small School Championships, while the Blue Devils beat Marathon, 13-2.

Earlier this season, Tioga dropped a 6-5 decision at Moravia.

GIRLS GOLF
IAC Championships, 9 a.m. @ Tomasso’s Golf Course: Waverly hosts the IAC for the league championship this morning, with teams from Watkins Glen, Lansing, Marathon, and SVEC expected to compete.
