LAWTON, Pa. — Athens poured 12 runs across the plate in the top of the seventh inning to top Susquehanna County, 17-5, here Saturday in the opening game of pool play action in the District 15 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.

Athens trailed 5-2, but scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning to force extra innings.

Sam Cheresnowsky belted a two-run double, scoring Shea Davidson who led off of the top of the seventh with a single, to give Athens a 7-5 lead. Athens added nine more hits in the inning in pulling away for the win.

Joe Dickinson rapped out four hits, including a double, scored two runs, and drove in one run, while Cheresnowsky homered, tripled, and singled, scored three runs, and had four RBI and Davidson had three hits, including a double, scored four runs, and knocked in two runs to pace Athens’ 20-hit attack.

Cartyr Cockcroft doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had three RBI in the win, while Jacob Saxon and Peter Bertsch each singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Ryan Hicks doubled and singled, scored once, and knocked in two runs.

Tyler Pelchy and Griffin Smith each singled and scored one run for Athens.

Davidson earned the win, striking out three, while allowing one hit and one walk in two scoreless innings.

Saxon allowed one run on three hits, while striking out seven and walking one in three innings of relief, and Cockcroft allowed one run on three hits, with four strikeouts in two innings to start the game.

Athens closes out pool play Wednesday when it hosts Sayre.
