BRADFORD-TIOGA LEGION BASEBALL: SAYRE RIDES FAST START TO 14-6 WIN OVER TOWANDA (19 PHOTOS) (2022-06-20)

SAYRE — Sayre built an early 7-0 lead, and scored in every inning in a 14-6 win over Towanda here Monday evening in Bradford-Tioga counties American Legion baseball action at Riverfront Park.

Lucas Horton’s RBI double gave Sayre a 1-0 lead in the home half of the first inning. Hogan Shaw knocked in a run with a fielder’s choice ground, and two more runs scored on an errant throw on the play to make it 4-0.

Shaw later stole second base, and scored on an errant throw to cap the rally at 5-0.

Jackson Hubbard, Horton, and Kannon VanDuzer stroked consecutive singles in the second inning to extend the lead to 6-0, and Karter Green drove home a run with an RBI single in the third to make it 7-0.

Towanda got on the board with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, but Sayre answered with one run in the fourth to make it 8-3.

Towanda scored in the top of the fifth to close the gap to 8-4, but Sayre answered with four runs in the home half of the inning.

Tanner Green led off with a single, and scored on an RBI double by Jackson Hubbard, who then scored on an RBI single by Lucas Horton.

After a single by David Hall, Horton scored on an fielder’s choice ground out off the bat of Brendon Cooke, who later scored on an error to make it 12-4.

Both teams scored two runs in the sixth inning to provide the final margin.

Horton had three hits, including a double, three runs scored, and two RBI to lead Sayre’s 13-hit attack, while Hubbard doubled and singled, scored four runs, and knocked in one run, and Thomas Morley added a double.

Jake Burgess and Tanner Green each singled and scored one run in the win, while VanDuzer, Will Crossett, and Karter Green each singled and drove in one run, and Zach Garrity and Hall each added a single.

Cooke scored two runs and drove in two runs for Sayre, while Shaw had three RBI and scored one run, and Joey VanAllen and Ronin Ault each scored one run.

Ault struck out two in two innings of hitless ball in the start.

Hubbard got the win, allowing four runs — three earned — on three hits, while striking out five and walking four. Crossett finished off the game, allowing two unearned runs on one hit, with three strikeouts and two walks.

Sayre hosts Mansfield Wednesday.
