There wasn’t much Corning’s Jack Gregorski didn’t accomplish this spring. But he wasn’t the only standout athlete in the Twin Tiers.

Gregorski, The Sports Reports’ 2022 All-Region Boys “Track and Field Athlete of the Year,” won the 3200 state title in 8:53.92, breaking the Section IV record along the way.

He also ran a 1:55.48 anchor leg to help their 4x800 relay to a state title in 7:49.70.

And, Gregorski ran 4:12.80 at the state qualifiers in the 1600 to win the title.

Troy’s Dustin Hagin had a strong senior year as well. Hagin took fourth in the state in the triple jump at 45-feet, while winning a district title in the event. Hagin also took third at districts in the long jump, just missing the state qualifying mark.

On the track, he was seventh in the state in the 110 hurdles, while earning a district medal in the 300 hurdles. All of that makes him the “Field Athlete of the Year.”

Corning’s Ashton Bange is no stranger to success on the track. He was a state medalist in the 1600, taking sixth in Division 1 at 4:14.78. He also ran a 1:56.89 leg of their state title winning 4x800 relay. HIs success there makes him the “Track Athlete of the Year.”

Waverly’s Kayleb Bechy took the sprinting world by storm, winning the 100 at the Class C Championships and the State Qualifier, and taking second in the 200 at the IAC Championships. He was also part of Waverly’s state qualifying 4x100 relay. That makes him the “Newcomer of the Year.”

Williamson’s coaching staff brought home their first NTL title in school history this spring. A combined effort between Williamson and CV, it is CV’s first league title this century, and their first title as a combined entity. That makes them the “Coaching Staff of the Year.”

Along with the Corning 4x800 relay, Williamson’s 4x800 relay of Cummings, Mizdail, Nathaniel Welch, and Duncan Kerr are also on the first team.
FIRST TEAM
Ashton Bange, Corning: See Above.

Kayleb Bechy, Waverly: See Above.

Gyassi Ruffin, Corning: He was a state qualifier in the 400 in 50.16 and was part of Corning’s 4x400 relay that qualified for states.

Gabe Cornfield, Corning: He was part of the state championship 4x800 relay, running his leg in 1:58.59. He was also part of their 4x400 relay that qualified for states.

Tevin McLaren, Corning: McLaren ran a 1:58.76 leg as part of Corning’s 4x800 state championship relay.

Matt Gensel, Corning: Gensel was a state qualifier in the 3200, running it in 9:26.59. He won the 3200 at the state qualifier meet.

Kristian Mizdail, Williamson: Mizdail was a state qualifier in the 1600 and 3200 this year, while also being a part of their 4x800 relay that took second at states. Mizdail had a personal best 4:25.99 in the mile at states, while running a personal best 9:36.38 at districts to qualify for states.

Owen Cummings, Williamson: Cummings was a state qualifier in the 1600, while anchoring the Williamson 4x800 relay that took second at states this year. He had a personal best 4:23.17 in the mile at states.

Dan Seeley, NEB: Seeley was a state medalist in the discus, taking seventh in 151-feet, while also earning a district title in the event. He was a district medalist in the shot put.

Kashawn Cameron, Wyalusing: Cameron was fourth in the long jump at the state championships with a season best 22-feet, 1 3/4-inches. He took second at districts in the event.

Micah Chandler, Waverly: Chandler won the 400 hurdles at the Section IV state qualifier, while taking fifth in the event at the state meet to earn a medal. He also ran on their 4x100 and 4x400 relays that won at the state qualifier.

Elliott Walter, SVE: Walter was fourth at states in the discus for Division 2, and sixth for the Federation, winning the Section IV state qualifier in the event. He was second in the shot put at the state qualifier. Walter had personal bests of 150-feet, 1-inch in the discus (a school record), and 47-feet, 4 1/2-inches in the shot put.

Tyler Simpson, Notre Dame: Simpson was a state qualifier in the 1600 in 4:30.87, winning the Division 2 title at the meet. He was second at the state qualifier in the 800. He ran a personal-best 4:27.90 at the state meet.

Axl Andrus, Horseheads: He ran the fastest 800 in the Twin Tiers this year in 1:56.66, while taking second in the event at the state qualifier.

Williamson’s 4x800 Relay (Owen Cummings, Kristian Mizdail, Nathaniel Welch, Duncan Kerr): They took second in the state in 8:10.86, and also took second at districts.
