COLLEGE WRESTLING: TIOGA GRAD WELCH GOES 2-1 FOR ST. JOHN FISTER AT FIRST COLLEGIATE TOURNEY (2022-11-09)

Mason Welch, a freshman on the St. John Fisher wrestling team, went 2-1 at his first collegiate tournament — the Lycoming Invitational — here Saturday.
Welch, wrestling in one of three 141-pound freshman / sophomore pools, opened his day with an 8-1 loss to Washington & Jefferson’s Colton Minerva. Welch trailed 2-1 entering the third period, but Minerva scored a quick escape and a takedown to extend the lead to 5-1.
In his second bout, Welch scored a takedown directly into a fall at 58 seconds against Oneonta State’s Connor Gormley.
In his final bout, Welch scored a first-period takedown, and a second-period reversal to beat Otterbein’s Joe Perkins, 4-0.
St. John Fisher returns to action Saturday at the Racich Rumble at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.
