IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: TIOGA WORKING WITH LOW NUMBERS AGAIN IN 2022-23 (2022-11-28)

TIOGA CENTER — Despite low numbers again this year, Tioga girls basketball coach Stephanie Hills is happy to be back on the court preparing for her second season.

“I am very excited,” she said. “I enjoy coaching basketball, so I’m excited to be back here.

“Hills says the Lady Tigers have eight on the varsity squad, and nine on the junior varsity team.

“Low numbers again, which is to be expected,” noted Hills. “We’re still working on our youth program, and that has good numbers. I think fourth- through sixth-grade we have have 15 or 16, which is better than it’s been in the past.

“Our main focus is you can’t build anything if you don’t build from the ground up,” added Hills.

With a small varsity roster, Hills said her girls need to be able to run.

“Our goal is to be in shape,” she said. “We still have a lot of conditioning to do to be where we need to be.

“We scrimmaged Dryden last week, and we definitely still have some work to do in terms of conditioning,” Hills added.

Tioga hosts Waverly Dec. 6 in its season opener.
