IAC BOWLING: VANDERPOOL'S 700 SERIES LEADS WAVERLY TO SWEEP OF NOTRE DAME; UNBEATEN LADY WOLVERINES ALSO SWEEP (2023-12-14)
Valley Sports ReportELMIRA — Senior Zach Vanderpool banged out a 700 series to lead Waverly to a sweep of Notre Dame, while junior Rachel Houseknecht paced the Lady Wolverines to a 4-0 win IAC Large School bowling action Wednesday afternoon at Dixie Lanes.
BOYS
Waverly 4, Notre Dame 0The Wolverines won all three games by at least 210 pins in a total-pinfall victory of 2,689 to 1,944.
Vanderpool rolled games of 236, 247, and 225 for a season-best 708 series, while junior Trenton Sindoni shot a 531, and senior Ashton Pritchard had a 507, including a 213.
Senior Michael Cole shot a 486 in the sweep, while freshman Derek Johnson had a 457, and 8th-grader Mason Apgar tacked on a 357.
Freshman Tristan Campbell rolled a 527 in reserves for the Wolverines.
Connor Ryan shot a 535 to pace the Crusaders.
Waverly improves to 17-3 on the season.
GIRLS
Waverly 4, Notre Dame 0Waverly won the first game by 158 pins (728-570), then won closer decisions of 708-594, and 651-608 in a total-pinfall win of 2,087 to 1,772.
Rachel Houseknecht rolled a 527 series, including a 210, while junior Victoria Houseknecht shot a 453, and senior Shantilly Decker had a 446.
Seventh-grader Karis Hayes added a 354 in the sweep, and 8th-grader Emily Houseknecht tacked on a 307.
Jade Nordin led Notre Dame with a 434 series.
Waverly remains unbeaten, at 20-0, on the season.
