NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: NP-M DOMINATES PAINT IN 32-24 WIN OVER SAYRE (17 PHOTOS) (2023-01-28)

Valley Sports Report
SAYRE — North Penn-Mansfield dominated the game boards, and it led to a 32-24 win over Sayre here Friday night in NTL Small School girls basketball action.

“(NP-M) physically beat us on the boards, which gave them extra shots,” said Sayre coach Bob Fauver. “In one sequence we gave them five shots, you won't win many ball games like
that.

“They didn't make an outside shot all night, but killed us inside,” added Fauver.

The Lady Redskins led after three quarter, but NP-M used a 13-3 fourth-quarter run to pull out the win.

Junior Liz Shaw drained a 3-pointer to help Sayre to a 6-5 first-quarter lead.

NP-M outscored Sayre, 11-5, in the second quarter to take a 16-11 lead into the halftime locker room, but Sayre, behind four points from Liz Shaw and a 3-pointer by freshman Kaitlyn Sutton, used a 10-3 lead to jump in front, 21-19, after three quarter.

Sutton knocked down a 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, but it was Sayre’s only points.

Liz Shaw led Sayre with 11 points, including three 3-pointers, and two assists, while Sutton scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers, freshman Rylee Lantz added four points, senior Gabby Shaw had three rebounds, and two assists, and sophomore Abbie McGaughey chipped in with three boards.

Sayre, now 3-13, plays at North Penn-Mansfield Monday.

“We better re-group quickly because we are facing (NP-M again on Monday night,” said Fauver.
