NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: SAYRE DROPS SEASON-OPENER AT NEWFIELD, 49-22 (December 3, 2025)

NEWFIELD, N.Y. — Newfield used a 13-3 second-quarter run to take a 14-point lead into the halftime break on its way to a 49-22 season-opening win over Sayre here Wednesday night in non-league girls basketball action.

Sophomore McKenna Parrish scored Sayre's only bucket in the opening stanza, but the Redskin defense kept them in the game. Newfield led 6-2 after the first eight minutes.

Egypt Smith-Henderson, who scored four points in the first quarter, pumped in nine points in the second quarter to fuel the 13-3 run that gave the Trojans a 19-5 lead at the half.

Senior Rylee Lantz scored four points in the third quarter for the Redskins, but Newfield outscored Sayre, 11-8, to extend its lead to 30-13 entering the final eight minutes.

Newfield closed the game with a 19-9 run in the final eight minutes.

Lantz led Sayre with eight points, 15 rebounds, three steals, and one blocked shot, while Parrish added five points, three assists, and one blocked shot, and senior Olivia Thompson had seven rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore Brooke Roberts grabbed eight boards for the Redskins, while sophomore Emily Strickland had four rebounds and one blocked shot, freshman Sophia Kline added four rebounds, and freshman Hailey Sanderson chipped in with three boards.

Smith-Henderson led Newfield with 27 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Sayre returns to action Monday at Sullivan County.
