NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: SAYRE FALLS TO 6A MIFFLIN COUNTY IN SEASON-OPENER AT MIFFLINBURG TIP-OFF TOURNEY (December 5, 2024)Valley Sports ReportMIFFLINBURG — A young and inexperienced Sayre team opened the 2025-26 season against Class 6A Mifflin County here Friday night in the opening round of the Mifflinburg Tip-Off Tournament, and dropped an 81-13 decision.
The Redskins graduated 12 seniors who played the vast majority of minutes the last two seasons.
"We will get there," said Sayre coach Paul Blythe. "We have some young talent and they need their time on the floor.
"Game reps mean more than anything and they are just now getting them on the varsity stage," noted Blythe.
"I’m proud of these kids," he added. "They have a tall hill to climb, but we will climb that hill again."
The Huskies rolled out to a 26-0 lead after the first eight minutes, and led 43-2 at the half.
Rommel Subs led Sayre with six points, three rebounds, and two steals, while Jackson Varner added a 3-pointer, and Dominic Mezzatesta had one blocked shot.
Sayre will face Montoursville in the consolation game Saturday.
