SAYRE — Sophomore Zach Moore spun a three-hitter, and freshman David Northrup drove in five runs to lead Sayre to a division-clinching, 11-0, five-inning win over Northeast Bradford here Saturday morning in NTL baseball action.
With the win, the Redskins, who clinched a share of the Small School Division title with a victory over Cowanesque Valley, claim the division outright and improve to 11-8 on the season.
Moore struck out two and walked none in a complete-game, five-inning performance. He threw just 48 pitches.
Sayre took control of the game with four runs in the second inning, and five more in the third inning.
Freshman Brayden Horton led off the second inning with a line-drive double, and scored on an RBI single by sophomore Nic Ficarro. Senior Jon Cron made it 2-0 with an RBI double.
With one out, Northrup clubbed a two-run triple to right field to extend the lead to 4-0.
In the third inning, senior James Esposito ripped a two-run single to push the lead to 6-0. The Redskins tacked on runs later in the inning on bases-loaded walks to Northrup and Moore, and an RBI groundout off the bat of junior Cam Wheeler.
In the fourth inning, Northrup delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 11-0 to bring the 10-run “mercy” rule into play.
Moore retired the side in order in the top of the fifth inning to end the game.
Northrup tripled and singled, and had five RBI, and Ficarro was 2-for-2 with two runs scored, and one RBI to pace Sayre’s nine-hit attack, while Esposito singled, scored two runs, and drove into runs, and Cron doubled, scored two runs, and knocked in one run.
