TIOGA CENTER — Tioga had three players — seniors Pierce Hendershot and John Worthing, and sophomore Derrick Gage — honored with IAC Division 2 first-team all-star status in recent voting by the division’s coaches.

Two more Tigers — juniors Mason Booser and Brady Worthing — received honorable mention recognition.

After winning a Section IV, Class C title, Tioga opens the state playoffs against Cooperstown Saturday at NYSEG Stadium.

Pierce Hendershot, senior, pitcher / third base: A Division I recruit, set to play at St. Bonaventure next year, Hendershot was possibly the best two-way player in the IAC.

Hendershot, a smooth glove at third base, is hitting .542 (32 hits in 59 ABs) on the season with 11 doubles, 15 RBI, 30 runs scored, and 17 stolen bases. He also walked 24 times and had an on-base percentage of .678, as well as a slugging percentage of .729, and an OPS of 1.407.

On the mound, Hendershot is 9-2, including three postseason wins last week, with a 0.71 ERA. He has 87 strikeouts in 69 innings, while walking just 13 batters and allowing 35 hits.

Derrick Gage, sophomore, first base / pitcher: A slick-fielding first baseman, Gage is hitting .314 (22 hits in 70 ABs) with four doubles, one triple, 12 RBI, and 14 runs scored.

On the mound, Gage is 2-1 with a 2.26 RA. He has 32 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings, and has allowed 16 walks and 14 hits.

John Worthing, senior, outfield / first base:
A speedy outfield and equally adept first baseman, John Worthing is hitting .290 (20 hits in 69 ABs) with four doubles, 16 RBI, 20 runs scored, and eight RBI.

Honorable Mention
Mason Booser, junior, catcher: A sound defensive catcher with a strong arm, Booser is hitting .338 (24 hits in 71 ABs) with three doubles, one triple, 17 RBI, 15 runs scored, and seven stolen bases.

Brady Worthing, junior, shortstop / pitcher: A slick-fielding shortstop with a good arm, Brady Worthing is hitting .358 (24 hits in 67 ABs) with three doubles, one triple, 11 RBI, 13 runs scored, and 10 stolen bases.

Brady Worthing also made the most of his time on the mound, with a 3-0 record. He has not allowed an earned run in 19 innings pitched, while striking out 31, walking just one, and allowing seven hits.
