Valley Sports ReportELMIRA — The Elmira Softball Umpires Association recently awarded the Tioga softball program with its annual Team Sportsmanship Award.
This award does not just apply to the varsity team, but to the school's entire softball program at all levels.
"Displaying sportsmanship and respect to the officials illustrates great character in a team's makeup, playing by the rules, and displaying that they were also good winners, as well as good losers. We, as officials, believe sportsmanship is one of the most valuable characteristics a student-athlete, coach and entire team/program can possess," said the official press release from the umpires' association.
Elmira was also nominated for the award.
"Both programs should be proud they were recognized for this honor," said the release.
