ATHENS - Sophomore Ben Gambrell and junior Keegan Rude led a balanced Athens attack in a 64-40 win over North Penn-Liberty here Friday night in NTL boys basketball action.
Rude, junior Damian Hudson, and junior Aaron Lane scored four points apiece in the first quarter, but NP-L was able to keep pace and the teams were tied at 14-14 after the first eight minutes.
Rude and senior Aric Westbrook each drained 3-pointers and scored five points apiece, and junior Brady Smith added a 3-pointer to fuel a 17-9 second-quarter spurt that gave the Wildcats a 31-23 lead.
Gambrell scored 10 points in the third quarter, including a 3-pointer and an old-fashioned three-point play, to spark an 18-7 blitz that extended the Athens lead to 49-30 entering the final eight minutes.
Gambrell scored 16 points and Rude netted 15 points to lead the Wildcats, while Lane had 10 points, Westbrook added seven points, and Hudson and Smith chipped in with six points apiece.
Athens, now 6-1, returns to action Wednesday at Cowanesque Valley.
