NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: NORTH PENN-MANSFIELD BESTS ATHENS, 80-67 (2019-02-09)

MANSFIELD - North Penn-Mansfield got off to a fast start en route to an 80-67 win over Athens here Saturday evening in NTL Large School boys basketball action.

Dylan Meyer scored 12 points in the first quarter to spark NP-M to a 26-19 lead after the first eight minutes, despite five points apiece from sophomore Benny Gambrell and senior Aric Westbrook.

Junior Aaron Lane canned a trio of 3-pointers and scored 11 points in the second quarter for the Wildcats, and Gambrell scored six more points, including his second 3-pointer, but the Tigers matched their offensive output and led 45-38 at the half.

NP-M had five different players find the scoring column in the third quarter, led by David Garrett's six points, and increased their lead to nine points, at 62-53, heading into the final eight minutes.

Meyer pumped in 14 points in the fourth quarter, including a 4-for-4 effort at the free-throw line, to put the game away for the Tigers.

Lane led Athens with 30 points and five 3-pointers, while Gambrell scored 16 points, Westbrook had nine pints, junior Brady Smith added seven points, and junior Keegan Rude chipped in with five points.

Meyer led NP-M with 32 points, while Brent Burleigh, who was 6-for-6 from the line, scored 14 points, and Garrett added 12 points.

Athens, now 12-7, returns to action Monday at Danville.
