MORAVIA — Sophomore Kindra Wessels tossed a two-hitter to lead Tioga in a hard-fought, 4-0, win over Moravia here Friday afternoon in IAC Division 2 softball action.
Wessels struck out five and walked just two in the complete-game seven-inning outing. She threw just 86 pitches.
The Lady Tigers scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning without the benefit of a hit, and did not get a hit off Moravia pitcher Iliana Ramirez until Wessels ripped a one-out triple in the top of the sixth inning.
Junior Michaela Webb led off the fourth inning with a walk and junior Shaina Franks was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. After a double steal, both runners scored on a throwing error that allowed Wessels to reach third base.
Wessels scored on an RBI groundout off the bat by freshman Julia Bellis to make it 3-0.
In the top of the sixth, Wessels tripled and scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
Moravia had just two runners reach second base in the contest.
Wessels tripled, scored two runs, and drove in a run, and sophomore Olivia Ayres singled to account for Tioga’s two hits, while Webb scored a run and stole two bases, and Franks scored one run.
Ramirez allowed four runs — one earned — on two hits in seven innings, while striking out five and walking two in the tough-luck loss.
Tioga, now 3-2, returns to action Thursday at Lansing.
