WAVERLY "" Alex Tomasso and Dylan Ward were honored here Monday night at the annual Waverly High School All-Sports banquet as the top three-sport senior athletes in the Valley.
Tomasso received the Valley Principals' Award, and Ward was the recipient of the Gary Forbes Award.
Tomasso is fresh off her sixth trip to the New York State golf championships, where she finished a career-best 18th, earning all-state honors for the second time.
During the winter season Tomasso earned IAC South Large School Divisional MVP honors and was named 13th-team all-state in Class B.
She averaged 19.5 points per game, while shooting 45.8 percent from the field, including 52.7 from inside the 3-point arc, and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc. She also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 3.3 steals, 2.8 assists, and 2.4 deflections per game
During the fall, Tomasso was an all-IAC Large School second-team soccer all-star on defense.
Ward is currently preparing for his first trip to the New York State Division II Track & Field Championships after winning Division II gold in the 800-meter run.
This winter, Ward was a first-team IAC South Large School all-star on the basketball hardwoods, and was named 16th-team all-state honors.
He averaged 16.9 points and 12.5 rebounds, as well as 1.6 steals, 1.5 blocks, and 1.2 assists per game. He also knocked down 25 3 -pointers on the season.
In the fall, Ward spent his first season on the gridiron since youth football, and was one of the top newcomers in the area. He had 16 receptions for 278 yards, and three TDs.
