TIOGA CENTER — Gavin Fisher delivered a two-out, walk-off single, scoring Deacon Bailey in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Tioga to a 4-3 extra-inning victory over ETL-Gault BMW in Tri County Teener League 14U action here Monday evening.
Bailey singled with one down to start the inning, Hunter VanWagenen moved him to second with a ground-ball error by the shortstop and Fisher’s fly-ball single to right field improved Tioga’s record to 2-0.
The win came with help from a sixth-inning rally in which Tioga bounced back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game. After VanWagenen was hit by a pitch, Fisher doubled to right with the ball scooting past the fielder, allowing VanWagenen to score on the throw to second. Cody Lavigne tied the game on a single to right.
Tioga grabbed the early advantage in the second when Lavigne singled, moved to third on Zach Beyer’s ground out and scored on a fielding error off the bat of Luke Powell.
ELT went up, 2-1, in the fifth on a pair of singles, an RBI ground out and an error.
The visitors made it 3-1 in the sixth on two errors and a base hit.
It was a tough day defensively for both teams as ELT registered seven errors and Tioga recorded six.
Gault had an opportunity to go ahead in the final two innings. ELT loaded the bases on two singles and a hit batter in the eighth, then filling the sacks on three consecutive walks with two outs in the ninth. Karson Sindoni came on to strike out Gault’s final batter to get the win.
Tioga could have ended the game in the seventh and eighth as well, putting two runners on via error with two gone in the seventh, and also put its first two batters on in the eighth due to errors.
The home team out-hit ELT, 8-5, with Lavigne going 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, Bailey going 2-for-4 with a double and a run, and Fisher going 2-for-5 with a double, a run and two RBI. Beyer and Drew Macumber added one hit apiece, and VanWagenen scored a run.
Macumber got the start on the mound and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up three runs, only one of which was earned. He struck out seven, allowed three hits and walked one. Silas Barnes went 2 1/3 innings, fanning two while giving up two hits and four walks.
Tioga visits Vestal Green at 6 p.m. Thursday.
