ENDICOTT — Tioga’s Ethan Perry and Conlan Taylor played key roles as Owego-Apalachin defeated ETL-Voorhees, 7-4, in Tri County Teener League 14U action here Monday evening.
From behind the plate, Perry threw out two runners stealing. On the basepath, he stole two bases himself. Perry had two walks and scored a run.
Taylor drove in the game’s first run, then struck out seven batters in 3 1/3 innings of relief to earn the save. He fanned five in a row at one point, and struck out the final batters in the fourth and seventh to squash comeback attempts.
Perry started a four-run surge in the fourth with a walk and stolen base. With one away, Danny Schofield singled and stole second, and Jack Rollison walked and stole second. Nate Armstrong reached on a throwing error by the pitcher and all four players would score runs to help Owego build a 5-0 cushion.
Owego added a run in the sixth after Bradley Palmer worked a base on balls and stole two bases, and another in the seventh when Ethan Nichols singled and stole two bases.
Taylor plated the game’s initial run on a fielder’s choice after Ben Rollison and Ethan English led off the top of the third with singles.
On the mound, he retired eight in a row before an error, walk, hit batter and a double closed the gap to 7-4 in the bottom of the seventh.
Starter Peyton Farrell earned the win, going 3 2/3 innings. He retired seven of the first 10 batters he faced, and two of the three who reached safely were thrown out attempting to steal. Farrell struck out five, and gave up two hits and three walks.
