ATHENS — Athens poured 13 runs across the plate in the bottom of the second inning in a 17-1 three-inning rout of Sayre here Friday evening in the opening game of pool play in the District 15 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.

Carson Rowe drove home the first run in the bottom of the first inning, and Matthew Driesbaugh added a two-run single as Athens jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

In the home half of the second, Rowe drove home two runs with a double to extend the lead to 6-0. After Driesbaugh’s RBI double made it 7-0, Dylan Saxon and Riley Campbell stroked RBI singles to push the lead to 9-0.

After Brady Darrow, Oliver Johnson and Eli Hobday belted consecutive RBI doubles to give Athens a 12-0 lead, Eli Chapman rapped an RBI single to make it 13-0.

Athens then took advantage of five walks, including three with the bases loaded to force in runs, to take a 16-0 lead. Nick Grazul capped the rally with an RBI single. Nick Grazul capped the 13-run outburst with an RBI single.

Driesbaugh doubled and singled, scored three runs, and had four RBI, and Rowe doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had three RBI to lead Athens’ 12-hit attack, while Darrow doubles, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Eli Chapman singled, scored three runs, and knocked in one run.

Troy Rosenbloom singled and scored three runs in the win, while Eli Hobday doubled, scored two runs, and drove in one run, Oliver Johnson doubled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Saxon singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Grazul singled and drove in one run.

Rosenbloom earned the win, striking out three in two perfect innings of work. Saxon allowed an unearned run in a hitless inning of relief with one strikeout and one walk.

Kevin Learn scored Sayre’s run, and Hogan Shaw had an RBI.

Sayre hosts RTL Sunday, and Athens travels to RTL Tuesday to finish up pool play.
