ITHACA "" Senior Sheridan Talada shattered her own school record and won the 3,000-meter run to lead Waverly to a ninth-place finish in the rugged 34-team field here Saturday at the Ithaca Bombers Indoor Track & Field Invitational.

Shaker High won the team title with 60 points, while Rush-Henrietta was second with 55, Corning was third with 53, Bethlehem was fourth with 45, and Mohonasen was fifth with 39. Waverly tallied 25 points, trailing only Corning, Lansing, and Horseheads among Section IV competitors.

Talada won the 3,000-meter run with a school-record time of 10:36.09, and senior Cora Smith was eighth in a time of 11:04.93. Talada bettered her previous record (10:51.73), set two weeks ago, by more than 15 seconds.

The foursome of Talada, Smith, and seniors Melina Ortiz and Elizabeth Fritzen finished third in the 1,600-meter relay in a time o 10:20.62.

Ortiz finished fifth in the 300-meter dash in 43.87 seconds.

Fritzen finished seventh in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 3:17.68, and senior Paige Ackley was 12th in 3:25.81.

Senior Alyssa Simonetti finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 9.96 seconds. She ran the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 9.74 seconds in the prelims.

Senior Marissa Eisenhower finished eighth in the weight throw with a heave of 32-feet, 1-inches, and Taylor Hall was 22nd at 23-feet, 10-inches. Eisenhower was 14th in the shot put at 28-feet, 4 1/2-inches

Also competing, but not placing were:

The foursome of Fritzen, Ackley, Talada, and Ortiz, who finished 10th in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:34.52.

Ortiz finished 17th in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 5 1/4-inches, and 8th-grader Elizabeth Vaughn finished 23rd in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:40.22.

Waverly returns to action Saturday in the Quinney Invitational at SUNY Cortland.
