SAYRE "" Ty Barrrett pumped in 27 points to lead Troy to a 56-46 win over Sayre here Friday night in NTL Boys basketball action.

"Not the final outcome that we would have hoped for, but the guys played with a lot more effort tonight," said Sayre coach Devin Shaw. "Credit to Troy, they are a tough, hard-working team and give 100 percent all the time.

"Ty Barrett is having a great year, and is a tough match-up for anyone," he noted. "There is always room for improvement, but I think we started to play more a little more as a "˜team' tonight.

"I'm proud of the fight our team had tonight and they gave it everything they have," added Shaw. "This game was good for us, and it will make us better throughout the rest of the year."

Barrett scored 13 points in the first quarter, and Mason Imbt added five as the Trojans built an early 20-13 lead.

Using a balanced scoring attack and solid defense in the middle two quarters, the Redskins trimmed the deficit to 28-23 at the half, and 39-36 heading into the final eight minutes.

Ethan VanNoy scored seven points in the fourth quarter, and the Trojans made four of five free-throw attempts down the stretch to seal the victory.

Senior Corbin Brown led Sayre with 11 points, while junior Matt Lane and freshman Lucas Horton each scored eight, sophomore Brayden Horton added seven points, and sophomore Dom Fabbri chipped in with four points.

Imbt and VanNoy added 12 points apiece in the win for Troy.

Sayre, now 4-6, returns to action Wednesday at Cowanesque Valley.
