NTL GIRLS SWIMMING: SHAY, HUGHEY LEAD SAYRE IN LOSS TO SHAMOKIN (2020-01-12)

TOWANDA "" Seniors Jillian Shay and Kayla Hughey each recorded four second-place finishes to pace Sayre's efforts in a 60-27 loss to Shamokin here Saturday afternoon in non-league girls swim action.

Shay finished second in the 200-yard IM in a district-qualifying time of 2:39.1. She also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in a personal-best and district-qualifying time of 1:01.08.

Hughey finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 29.34 seconds, and freshman Elizabeth Boyle was fourth with a personal-best time of 33.16 seconds.

Hughey also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a personal-best time of 1:15.83, and senior Jordyn Maxim was third in 1:39.28.

"The backstroke is not a typical event for Kayla, and she was just shy of qualifying for districts," said Sayre coach Carrie Wright. "We will be looking to pursue that qualifying time in the next few meets."

Freshman Elizabeth Boyle finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a personal-best time of 2:46.99, and freshman Ella Chilson was third in 3:37.72.

Chilson finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:08.98.

The foursome of Shay, Hughey, Maxim and Boyle finished second in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 2:28.84.

Shay, Hughey and Maxim teamed with Chilson to finish second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 2:15.27.

Sayre returns to action Tuesday at Elk Lake.
