ATHENS SENIOR AARON LANE NAMED 2020 FORBES MEMORIAL AWARD WINNER (2020-06-06)

ATHENS "" Athens senior Aaron Lane was recently named the 2020 recipient of the Gary Forbes Memorial Award, which has been presented annually to the top three-sport senior athlete in the Valley.

Aaron Lane is the 62nd recipient of the award, which was first handed out in 1959. Lane's older brother, Ethan, received the award in 2018.

Lane was an all-state performer on the soccer pitch last fall, scoring 29 goals and doling out 14 assists. In his career, Lane scored 53 goals and had 40 assists.

He also joined his brother in the 1,000-point club during his senior season on the hardwoods. He led the team with 23.8 points per game, and also averaged 3.7 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1.5 assists per game.

Lane knocked down 45 3-pointers during his senior season, and also made a Valley-best 135 free throws, shooting 82 percent from the line in the process.

Lane graduates second all-time on the Athens boys scoring list with 1,374 points - trailing only former Penn State standout and longtime NBA player Bob Weiss, who tallied 1,444 points in his career at Athens.

He had just one full season on the diamond for the Athens varsity baseball team, but made the most of it.

Lane posted a 5-1 record on the mound with a 0.43 ERA. He struck out 12 and walked 14, while allowing 12 hits in 29 2/3 innings pitched. Opponents hit .200 against him this season.
