Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY "" The Williams Ford Cubs rode a strong pitching performance from Kohen Hugo in a win over the New Image Pirates, and Cooper Robinson's effort on the mound led the Tomasso's Restaurant & Golf Course to its first win of the season here Friday in Waverly Little League Majors Division baseball action.
Williams Ford Cubs 4, New Image Pirates 1
Kohen Hugo pitched a gem to lead the Williams Ford Cubs to a 4-1 win over the New Image Pirates Friday afternoon.
Hugo allowed one run on four hits over six inning to earn the win. He fanned 15 and walked none.
The Pirates struck first with a lead-off triple by Bryce Laforest and an RBI single by Brendan Cooke to take a 1-0 lead, but Hugo struck out the next three batters to end the threat.
Hugo helped his own cause in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.
Tristan Campbell's RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning sparked a two-run rally that gave the Cubs a 3-1 lead, and Nathan Kellogg's RBI single in the fifth inning provided the final margin.
Kellogg singled twice and scored one run, while Hugo and Campbell each singled and drove in one run, and Brayden Robbins and Eric Schrader III each scored one run.
Laforest tripled and singled, and scored one run, and Cooke singled twice and drove in a run to account for the Pirates' offense.
Laforest was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs - two earned - on three hits, while walking seven and striking out three in four innings of work. Aiden Doherty allowed one hit and recorded one strike out in a scoreless inning of relief.
The Cubs improve to 3-1, while the Pirates fall to 2-2.
Tomasso's Restaurant & Golf Course Blue Jays 6, Naglee Moving & Storage Angels 5
Lucas Pradun's RBI single knocked home Jaiden Heinzelman with the eventual winning run in the Blue Jays 6-5 win over the Angles Friday evening.
The Blue Jays scored three runs in the home half of the first inning in a rally that featured an RBI single by Alex McQuay, then tacked on another run in the second on a bases-loaded walk to Ryan Yeakel to make it 4-0.
The Angels took advantage of three Blue Jay errors to plate four runs in the top of the third inning without the benefit of a hit to tie the game at 4-4.
Luciano Thomas led off the top of the fifth for the Angels with a triple and scored moments later on an error to make it 5-4.
In the home half of the fifth, the Blue Jays loaded the bases without a hit. Charan Venkataswamy was hit by a pitch with two outs to tie the game at 5-5, and Pradun followed with a single to left field of put the Blue Jays ahead.
Venkataswamy walked the first two Angel batters in the top of the sixth inning, but struck out the next three to preserve the win.
Cooper Robinson earned the win for the Blue Jays, allowing five runs - none earned - on one hit, while striking out 10 and walking three. Venkataswamy struck out three and walked to in a scoreless inning of relief to record the save.
Pradun stroked three singles, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Robinson doubled and singled, and scored two runs to pace the Blue Jays' eight-hit attack, while McQuay and Yeakel each singled and drove in one run, and Karson Sipley added a single.
Venkataswamy and Derek Johnson each scored on run and drove in one run, and Heinzelman crossed the plate once.
Thomas tripled and scored one run for the Angels' only hit, while Porter Daddona, Logan Roskow, Jaxon Chandler, and Elijah Hobday each scored a run. Daniel Cummings had the lone RBI for the Angels.
Daddona had the best turn on the mound for the Angels, allowing two runs - both unearned - on two hits, while striking out six and walking one.
The Blue Jays improve to 1-3, while the Angels fall to 0-3.
