WATKINS GLEN "" On Thursday, Watkins Glen swept all 10 swimming events in a big win over Waverly. Tuesday, the Lady Wolverines won two events, but still dropped a 106-77 decision to the unbeaten Lady Senecas in IAC swimming & diving action.
Senior Willow Sharpsteen and junior Sophia DeSisti notched Waverly's two wins in the swimming events, and junior Josie VanDyke won the diving competition for the Lady Wolverines, who fall to 6-3 on the season.
DeSisti and 8th-grader Mira Kittle finished 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle. DeSisti clocked in at 27.96 seconds, and Kittle touched at 28.02 seconds.
VanDyke and junior Natalie Garrity finished 1-2 in the 1-meter diving competition. VanDyke accumulated 158 points, while Garrity had 146.85 points.
Sharpsteen won the 100-yard butterfly in 1:10.7, and 8th-grader Liz Robinson was third in 1:21.95.
Kittle and Vascoe each logged four second-place finishes, and DeSisti, and senior Lourden Benjamin had three runner-up finishes apiece.
Kittle, Benjamin, DeSisti, and Sharpsteen finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay, and Kittle, Vascoe, Robinson, and senior Nicole Bunke were second in the 400-yard free relay.
Benjamin, Vascoe, Sharpsteen, and DeSisti finished second in the 200-yard medley relay.
Kittle finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:10.0, while Benjamin was second in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:20.09, and DeSisti finished second in the 100-yard freestyle in 1:01.42.
Vascoe was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:23.45, and was second in the 500-yard freestyle. Benjamin finished third in the 500 free.
Sharpsteen finished third in the 200-yard IM in 2:41.37.
Waverly returns to action at the IAC Championships Oct. 23 at Watkins Glen.
