THE VALLEY "" The top harriers in each class vie for berths at the New York State Championships, which will also be held at Chenango Valley State Park, today at the Section IV Championships, while Tioga is in action at Candor in the Section IV, Class D volleyball semifinals.
CROSS COUNTRY
Waverly, Tioga at Section IV Championships, 10 a.m. @ Chenango Valley State Park: Waverly and Tioga's cross country teams will be in action this morning.
Waverly will run in the Class C races. Senior Nate Ackley is the eighth seed in the boys race, while freshman Harper Minaker and senior Olivia Nittinger are the seventh and eight seeds, respectively, in the girls race, and sophomore Elizabeth Vaughn is the 14th seed.
Tioga will run in the Class D races. Junior Thomas Hurd is the 14th seed in the Class D race, while sophomore Lexy Ward is the 34th seed in the girls race.
The top five place-finishers in each race not on the championship team advance to the state meet, along with the championship team.

Section IV Playoffs
Class D Semifinals
2-Tioga (16-2), 3-Unadilla Valley (12-2), 4-Oxford (11-3) at 1-Candor (17-1), 4:30 p.m.: The top four seeds all won their quarter-final match-ups to advance to the Class D semifinals at Candor H.S. tonight.
The top seeds - Candor and Tioga - squared off three times this season - all five-set thrillers. Tioga won the first at home, and Candor won the next two meetings - both at home.
Unadilla Valley and Oxford also split a pair of decisions during the season.
The four teams will play a two-set round-robin, with the top two advancing to the Class D finals Saturday afternoon at Corning-Painted Post High School.
