THE WEEK AHEAD: VALLEY SCHOOLS ARE 'ROAD WARRIORS' IN BUSY WEEK (2022-01-09)

THE VALLEY — It’s another busy week, with plenty of wrestling and basketball action on the docket. The majority of the schedule for the four Valley schools is on the road this week.

The are 35 events on this week’s docket, including seven each on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Of the 35 events, only 10 (four at Tioga, three at Waverly, two at Sayre, and one at Athens) are being played at home in the Valley. Five of the home events are Tuesday.

The following are some, not all, of this week’s top events:

MONDAY (2)
•  The Sayre boys are at NP-Mansfield, and the Athens girls are at Wyalusing in NTL basketball action.

TUESDAY (7)
•  Athens hosts Canton in a key NTL wrestling match-up.

•  Sayre hosts NEB in an NTL Small School girls basketball match-up.

•  The Tioga girls host Notre Dame, while the boys travel to Notre Dame in IAC hoop action.

•  The Waverly girls travel to S-VE in girls hoop action.

•  The Waverly bowling teams host Owego in a rare non-league match at the Valley Bowling Center.

•  The Tioga bowlers host Marathon.

WEDNESDAY (6)
•  Tioga hosts arch-rival Newark Valley in an IAC wrestling match.

THURSDAY (6)
•  Waverly hosts Tioga, New York State’s top-ranked Division 2 wrestling team.

•  The Sayre wrestlers host Troy.

FRIDAY (7)
 •  The Athens wrestlers are in action in Day 1 of the New Oxford Tournament.

•  The Tioga wrestlers are in Canandaigua for Day 1 of the Bradshaw Tournament.

•  The Tioga boys are at Union Springs, while the Lady Tigers host U.S.

SATURDAY (7)
•  Waverly hosts the first annual Jim McCloe Wresting Tournament.

•  The Sayre wrestlers are at the Border Battle at Williamson.

•  Waverly is in action at the Section IV Indoor Track & Field Classic.

•  The Athens swimmers are in action at the Elk Lake Invite.
