
LAPORTE, Pa. — Sayre led early, and late, but in the end Sullivan County pulled out a 15-14 win here Thursday afternoon in non-league softball action.
It’s the second one-run win over the Lady Redskins for the Lady Griffins in as many days, after a 20-19 thriller on Wednesday.
Sayre took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, and led 5-3 after 2 1/2 innings, but Sullivan County scored six runs in the home half of the third to take a 9-5 lead.
The Lady Redskins closed the gap to 11-10 after 5 1/2 inning, but Sullivan added two runs in the home half of the frame to make it 13-10.
Aliyah Rawlings capped a four-run rally in the top of the seventh with a two-run double to give Sayre a 14-13 lead, but a pair of errors proved costly in the home half of the inning as Sullivan County plated two runs to win the game.
Madison Smith had four hits, including a double, and scored three runs, and Rawlings belted three doubles, and scored one run to lead Sayre at the plate, while Raegan Parrish doubled and singled, and scored two runs, and Olivia Corbin doubled and singled, and scored one run.
Abbie McGaughey singled twice and scored three runs for the Lady Redskins, while Makenna Garrison scored two runs, and Chilson scored one run.
Sayre, now 0-14, hosts Waverly and Tioga Saturday in the "Battle at the Border."
