WYALUSING — Wyalusing raced out to a 9-0 lead, then scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to close out a 13-3 win over Athens here Monday evening in Bradford-Tioga counties American Legion baseball action.
Wyalusing scored twice in the home half of the first, upped the lead to 7-0 after two innings, then tacked on two more runs in the third inning.
Matthias Welles led off the top of the fourth inning with a single, and ended up on third bases after back-to-back walks to Lucas Kraft and Dylan Saxon.
Jack Cheresnowsky put Athens on the board with a two-run single, and Carson Smith capped the rally with an RBI single.
Cheresnowsky singled and drove in two runs, Smith singled and knocked in one run, Welles singled and scored one run to account for Athens’ three hits, while Kraft and Saxon each scored one run.
Athens returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Troy.
