NTL GIRLS WRESTLING: FOUR ATHENS WRESTLERS REACH PODIUM; LADY 'CATS FINISH EIGHTH AT COAL CRACKER GIRLS INVITE (2023-01-22)

LEIGHTON, Pa. — Athens, led by runner-up freshman Hanna Rathbun, had four wrestlers reach the podium in an eighth-place team finish here this weekend at the Coal Cracker Girls Wrestling Invitational.

Athens placed eighth in the 35-team field with 79.5 points, while Cumberland Valley claimed the team title with 175 points, while Bishop McCort was second with 130.5 points, and Easton was third with 125.

At 124-131 pounds, Rathbun pinned her way into the finals.

She opened with a 56-second fall of Selinsgrove’s Cadence Kratzer, then pinned Cumberland Valley’s Mariam Basta in 3:50 in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Rathbun decked Easton’s Jamie Castillo in 3:19.

In the finals, Honesdale’s Rosalyn Mikulak pinned Rathbun in 4:40 to secure the title.

At 105-110 pounds, 7th-grader Kendall Galasso went 3-1 to finish third.

Kendall Galasso opened with a pin of Cumberland Valley’s Paige Klarie in 4:11 in the opening round, then pinned Honesdale’s Rachele Chee in 2:48 in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Pocono Mountain West’s Mia Ariola pinned Kendall Galasso in the first period, but she bounced back in the third-place mats with a pin of Hanover’s Santina Saraka in 1:55.

At 109-115, freshman Aniah Kolesar went 3-1 to finish third.

Kolesar opened with a 14-2 major decision over Cumberland Valley’s Lillian Seagraves, then pinned Selinsgrove’s Nevaeh Strouse in 3:52 in the quarterfinals.

In the semis, Bishop McCort’s Lane Fordyce pinned Kolesar in 35 seconds, but she bounced back in the third-place match with a 15-4 major decision over Easton’s Alexis Santiagon.

At 120-125, 8th-grader J.C. Allis went 3-1 to finish fifth.

Allis got to the podium the hard way, by dropping her first bout via fall in 2:02 to Cumberland Valley’s Eliana White-Vega, then winning three straight.

In her first wrestleback match, Allis decked Western Wayne’s Olivia Black in 46 seconds.

Allis then forged a 6-2 decision over Gettysburg’s Adrianna Bowling in the consolation semifinals.

In the fifth-place match, Allis dominated in an 18-3 technical fall of Northwestern Lehigh’s Josie Wehr.

At 130-137, 7th-grader Memphis Paul was 2-2, and one win shy of placing.

Paul scored an 8-6 overtime win over Cumberland Valley’s Morgan Longenecker in the opening round, then dropped a 2-0 decision to Gettysburg’s Zalika Roberts in the quarterfinals.

Paul bounced back with a pin of Palisades’ Olivia Lessing in 1:29, but was eliminated via a 6-5 loss to Lehigton’s Maggie Pagotto in the consolation semifinals.

At 133-144 pounds, senior Lily Galasso was 1-2, with her lone win a 30-second fall over Palisades’ Hannah Gibson in the opening round.

Sophomore Mary Henry (113-122), 8th-grader Kaylynn Kletz (114-121) and 8th-grader Abigail Wagner (155-168) were all 0-2 on the weekend.
