Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY - Waverly senior Joey Tomasso, and Tioga sophomore Sophia Haney played big roles in their teams’ wins over the weekend, and are the initial Valley Sports Report / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending Sept. 2.
WAVERLY’S TOMASSO NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Tomasso accounted for five TDs to lead Waverly to a season-opening, 41-19, win over Honeoye Falls-Lima.
A two-time all-state QB Joey Tomasso completed 14 of 23 passes for 207 yards, and two TDs, and also rushed for three scores, gaining 104 yards on eight carries.
He had TD runs of 7, 6 and 75 yards.
Honorable Mentions: Tioga’s Caden Bellis, Waverly’s Xavier Watson, Athens’ Evan Cooper, Athens’ Cooper Robinson, Athens’ Korey Miller, and Tioga’s Tyler Roe.
TIOGA’ HANEY NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Haney scored five goals in two games for the Lady Tigers on the week, including a hat trick in their 3-2 OT win over Marathon Saturday that snapped a 21-game losing streak.
On Thursday, Haney scored a pair of goals in Tioga, 3-2, season-opening loss to Southern Cayuga.
