BINGHAMTON - Waverly coach Eric Ryck didn’t like the final result, but he was happy with his team’s effort in a 5-0 loss to Seton Catholic here Tuesday night in STAC Central Division boys soccer action.

"Man, we fought hard," said Waverly coach Eric Ryck. "I know the score line says otherwise, but the boys played very well tonight.

"They did everything we asked them to, and I really don’t think they’ve played this hard all season," he noted. "We were staying organized defensively and really doing well in the midfield, and were creating opportunities in the final third, just couldn’t find the back of the net.

"We do really have to work on being more disciplined and aggressive defending in our box," added Ryck. "All but one of their goals were scored from inside our box — two on set pieces and two on loose balls."

Rowan Schmidt, off a corner kick from John Ricci, put the Saints on the board in the 13th minute, and Cash Vaughn, off a free kick from George Phillips, scored in the 32nd minute to give SCC a 2-0 lead at the halftime intermission.

Phillips scored twice in the first 16 minutes of the second half to up the lead to 4-0.

Noah Ellsworth capped the scoring with a goal in the 68th minute.

Seton Catholic had a 16-6 edge in shots-on-goal, and a 13-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Senior Thomas Moyer had 10 saves in net for the Wolverines, and Ben Moyer recorded five for the Saints.

Waverly, now 1-8, hosts Owego Saturday at 5 p.m.
